Front Door Transformation with Geneva Vanderzeil

A bold front door with Feast Watson Timber & Deck Stain

It's often said, a small change can make a big difference. This sentiment couldn't be more fitting than when talking about your home's front door. Whether your existing door is experiencing the effects of time or you’re after something that compliments your style, Feast Watson's deck stain can help you make a statement.
Geneva Vanderzeil was looking to replace her front door with a piece that captures the essence of her old door while giving her home a fresh, new look. After some searching, she was lucky enough to stumble upon a similar antique door that she could retrofit to suit. Geneva chose our Timber & Deck Stain in Black Japan to create a look that was simple, timeless, and undeniably beautiful. Read on to learn how you can get the look.

Inspect & prep

  1. If you're using a pre-loved door, make sure you examine it for any damage or wear and make any necessary repairs.
  2. Sand the timber with 240 grit sandpaper to create a smooth surface.
  3. Make your cleaning solution by diluting 1 part Woodclean to 4 parts water. Use a stiff bristle brush to apply the solution to dampened timber and scrub the surface vigorously.
  4. Leave for 20 minutes before rinsing with water.

Impart a bold hue

  1. Once the timber is completely dry, it's time to stain. Thoroughly stir the Timber & Deck Stain with a flat blade stirrer.
  2. Using a brush, evenly coat the timber door following the direction of the timber's grain.
  3. Allow 12 hours of drying time between coats. Then apply your second coat.
  4. If you want to add an extra layer of reflective protection and make the colour pop, apply a coat of Feast Watson Weatherproof Varnish.
