How to prepare your timber for Feast Watson Stain & Varnish:
Before you get coating, let's prep.
How to prepare new timber:
Sand to a smooth surface and remove all sanding dust before coating.
To achieve a super-smooth finish, or if the timber grain is open or coarse, apply a coat of Feast Watson Sanding Sealer and sand back as per the label instructions.
For naturally oily timbers, seal the timber with Feast Watson Proofseal™ as per the label instructions prior to application.
How to prepare previously coated timber:
Previously varnished surfaces need to be sanded to a dull finish.
Remember to remove all sanding dust before coating.
How to apply Feast Watson Stain and Varnish:
Here we go!
Make sure you love your colour! Using an off-cut, test the colour to ensure you are happy with your choice.
Make sure the Stain and Varnish is thoroughly stirred through before beginning and during application. Avoid introducing any bubbles!
Apply Stain & Varnish using a brush, roller or spray. Spray: If spraying Stain & Varnish may be thinned by using 10% mineral turpentine. If applying by spray, three coats are required. Roller: If applying by roller, use a short nap (5mm) mohair roller. Ensure edges and end grain are fully coated.
If applying over a previous varnish coating, two coats will be sufficient. If applying to new timber, three coats are needed.
Achieved your colour after one coat? No worries. Just complete the following coats with Feast Watson Clear Varnish as additional coats of Stain & Varnish will intensify colour.
Provide 12 hours drying time between coats.
Remember to sand lightly between coats with a fine sandpaper to get the best results.
How to maintain your timber after using Feast Watson Stain & Varnish:
Follow these easy steps:
Keep an eye on the surface for any signs of colour loss or surface defects.
When required, lightly sand the surface, remembering to remove all sanding dust.
Recoat with an additional coat of Clear Varnish as per application instructions.
Do not pour leftover product down the drain.
Brush leftover product onto newspaper, and allowed to completely dry, before disposing of via general waste collection.
Empty containers should be left open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container through steel can recycle programs such as Paintback.
