Feast Watson Clear Varnish
Celebrate your timber’s natural beauty with Feast Watson Clear Varnish.
Designed to enhance and protect the natural grain of timber, not cover it up, our Clear Varnish is the quiet achiever of the pack. Available in a gloss, satin, or matt finish.
Its oil-based polyurethane formula helps protect your timber against wear, tear, and scratches while the clear finish preserves its look and feel.
This is the clear varnish for wood that’s ideal for indoor furniture, panelling, doors, frames, skirting boards and architraves. For flooring, try our Timber Floor Varnish.
It’s a clear timber varnish you can use alone, or combine with our Prooftint to add a dash of colour.

How to prepare your timber for Feast Watson Clear Varnish:
Let's get that Gloss, Satin or Matt glow.
How to prepare new timber for Clear Varnish:
Sand to a smooth surface. Remember to remove all sanding dust before coating.
To achieve a super-smooth finish or if the timber grain is open or coarse, apply a coat of Feast Watson Sanding Sealer. Sand back as per the directions.
Note: For naturally oily timbers, seal the timber with Feast Watson Proofseal™ as per the directions prior to application.
How to prepare previously coated timber for Clear Varnish:
Previously varnished timber must be sanded to a dull finish to achieve the best results.
Remember to remove all sanding dust before coating.
Let's get started…
Stir the product thoroughly with a flat blade stirrer, taking care not to introduce any bubbles.
Using a brush, roller or spray, apply Clear Varnish. Spray: If desired, thin the varnish using 10% mineral turpentine. Roller: Use a short nap (5mm) mohair roller. Ensure edges and end grain are fully coated.
Allow for 8 hours of drying time between coats.
If applying extra coats, remember to sand lightly in between coats with fine sandpaper.
If applying over previously varnished coating: Two coats is enough.
If applying over new timber: If applying by spray, apply a minimum of three coats. More coats may be applied for extra durability.
Apply Prooftint, following label directions, prior to the application of Clear Varnish.
Allow Prooftint to dry for the recommended period before applying Clear Varnish.
OR
Alternatively, add 10% Prooftint to the first coat of Clear Varnish.
Allow 8 hours of drying time before applying the second coat.
If the desired colour is achieved in the first coat, apply subsequent coats without the Prooftint additive. For further colour intensity, add Prooftint to the subsequent coats.
How to maintain my timber after using Feast Watson Clear Varnish:
Always monitor your timber for signs of colour loss or surface defects.
When required, lightly sand the surface and remove dust.
Recoat with additional coats of Clear Varnish as per application instructions.
To rejuvenate your interior furniture and other sealed timber surfaces, polish with Feast Watson Furniture Polish.
Your timber will be good as new!
Do not pour leftover product down the drain.
Brush leftover product onto newspaper, and allowed to completely dry, before disposing of via general waste collection.
Empty containers should be left open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container through steel can recycle programs such as Paintback.
