How to prepare Prooftint™:
Preparation is key.
How to prepare New Timber:
Sand to a smooth surface and remove all sanding dust before coating.
To achieve that super-smooth finish, or if the timber grain is open or coarse, apply a coat of Feast Watson Sanding Sealer and sand back as per the label instructions.
Note: For naturally oily timbers, seal the timber with Feast Watson Proofseal™ as per the label instructions prior to application.
How to prepare Previously Coated Timber:
Previously varnished surfaces need to be sanded to a dull finish.
Remember to remove all sanding dust before coating.
How to apply Prooftint™:
Let's get started! Follow these steps on how to apply wood stain:
Using a brush or cloth, apply Prooftint™ evenly over the desired area.
Go make yourself a cup of tea and wait 2-5 minutes for the stain to penetrate the surface. Wipe off excess with a clean, soft cloth.
Ensure the edges of adjoining sections are carefully blended together by evenly wiping the overlap area.
Once your area is dry, make sure you seal it with Feast Watson Timber Floor Oil, Clear Varnish, Weatherproof™ Pro, or Scandinavian Oil™. The clear topcoat ensures lasting protection and fully develops the final colour - the most important step!
Dilute Prooftint™ with Prooftint™ Colour Reducer to allow more time to evenly distribute the stain and achieve a uniform appearance. 1 Part Prooftint™ mixed with 1 part Prooftint™ Colour Reducer will result in approximately half the strength of colour.
Darker colours: add more Prooftint™ to the mix.
Lighter Colours: Dilute Prooftint™ further with Prooftint™ Colour Reducer.
Using Tung Oil: add up to 10% Prooftint™ directly to the oil and use this mixture to stain the timber.
Let’s do it! Using a brush or Feast Watson Floor Finish Applicator and lambswool sock, apply the mixture. Make sure your application is evenly distributed - we want an even finish! Tip: To get that professional finish (without the professionals), cut around the edges and corners with a narrow brush as you go, instead of cutting in the whole area first. Avoid lap marks and double build by beginning at one edge and following through to a natural break, such as a door, window or corner.
Stain the floors 2-3 boards at a time, covering the full length of the board.
Go make yourself a coffee and allow the stain to penetrate the surface for 2-5 minutes.
Wipe off the excess with a clean, soft cloth. Don’t forget about the edges of adjoining sections!
All done? Amazing! Now, seal with Feast Watson Timber Floor Oil after the floor is dry. This will preserve the stain and provide durability for high wear areas.
Add up to 10% of Prooftint™ to Feast Watson Clear Varnish or Liming White (Oil Based).
Apply the varnish stain by brush and allow to dry.
Do not wipe off excess.
How to maintain your timber after using Prooftint™:
Let's maintain your wonderful colour...
For Floors:
Once Prooftint™ has been top coated, use Feast Watson Floorclean™ to clean your floor.
Use Feast Watson Mastertouch Polish to rejuvenate the surface and Feast Watson Floorshine to rejuvenate and extend the life of tired, worn floors.
For Furniture:
To rejuvenate your interior furniture, polish sealed surfaces with Feast Watson Mastertouch Polish or buff with Feast Watson Fine Buffing Oil™."
Do not pour leftover product down the drain.
Brush leftover product onto newspaper, and allowed to completely dry, before disposing of via general waste collection.
Empty containers should be left open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container through steel can recycle programs such as Paintback.
