How to prepare your deck for Wet Look Decking Oil:

Before you get coating, let's prep!

How to prepare new timber:

  1. Allow your new timber to weather for 4-6 weeks before applying.

  2. Ensure your deck is clean and ready to go by applying Feast Watson Woodprep.

  3. For best results, lightly sand your timber to remove any grain rise. And remember, remove any leftover dust before coating.

How to prepare weathered timber:

  1. Ensure your deck is clean and ready to go by applying Feast Watson Woodprep.

  2. For best results, lightly sand your timber to remove any deterioration. Make sure to remove all leftover sand before coating.

How to prepare previously coated timber:

Let's change it up...

  1. If your deck already has stain or oil, don't worry. Conduct a simple test to see if your surface is ready by sprinkling water onto your deck:

- If the water absorbs - you're good to go!

- If the water beads, you may need to let your deck further weather, or requires you to either sand or strip your deck.

Painted or varnished surfaces:

  1. Before coating, you must bring your timber back to bare timber by stripping or sanding your deck.

  2. Clear away any sanding dust before proceeding.

How to apply Wet Look Decking Oil to your deck:

So, how do you make your deck look industry standard? Let’s see!

  1. Ensure that your timber is completely dry before applying Wet Look Decking Oil.

  2. Thoroughly stir Wet Look Decking Oil before starting, and during application. Avoid introducing any bubbles!

  3. If you are coating a large space and need more than one Deck Oil, mix both cans together in a large container.

  4. Make sure you only use the best tools, such as a quality synthetic or pure bristle brush or lambswool applicator. Please don’t use a roller! We only want the best for your deck.

  1. Apply your first coat of Wet Look Decking Oil by walking along 3-4 planks at a time, in the same direction as the grain of the deck. Don’t forget about your edges! They need to be fully coated. Note: You don’t have to be cautious about how much oil you use – the more the merrier!

  2. Leave your deck to dry for 4 hours. Go make yourself a cup of tea, put your feet up and read a book.

  3. Once you have finished a few chapters, apply a second coat, following the directions above.

  4. A third coat is recommended if your timber is in direct sun exposure, around pools or in humid areas. A third coat is also recommended if you want a higher gloss finish, achieving a true 'wet-look'.

How to maintain your deck after using Wet Look Decking Oil:

You’ve finished! Well done. Now, how do you keep your deck looking it’s best?

  1. Regular check on the coated timber to look for any colour loss, dryness or weathering.

  2. If you notice deterioration, recoat the timber and it will return to its original glossy beauty.

  3. If you recoat, don’t forget to clean your deck first using Feast Watson Woodprep.

Do not pour leftover product down the drain.

Brush leftover product onto newspaper, and allowed to completely dry, before disposing of via general waste collection.

Empty containers should be left open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container through steel can recycle programs such as Paintback.
