Achieving a classic traditional finish has never been easier with a quick 1 hour recoat time, the penetrating oil ensures a natural even finish without the long recoat times of other solvent-based decking oils. Traditional Timber Oil weathers naturally and will not flake or peel.
Developed specifically for all exterior timber, Traditional Timber Oil protects against the destructive effects of weather and mould growth, providing a rich natural, understated finish to your decking, outdoor furniture, pergolas, steps, fences, gates, posts and beams.
Choose from the versatile yet subtle shades of Merbau, Natural, or Weathered Grey. Or tint to a range of richer colours including Walnut and Red Cedar. Apply more or fewer coats to achieve your desired look.

How to prepare your timber for Traditional Timber Oil:
Before you get started coating, let's prep!
How to prepare new timber:
Allow your new timber to weather for 4-6 weeks before applying.
Ensure your deck is clean and ready to go by applying Feast Watson Woodprep.
Sand the surface lightly to remove any raised grain for the best results for your deck. And remember, remove any leftover dust before coating.
How to prepare weathered timber:
Ensure your deck is clean and ready to by applying Feast Watson Woodprep.
For best results, lightly sand your timber to remove any deterioration.
Make sure to remove all sanding dust before coating.
How to prepare previously coated timber:
If your deck already has stain or oil, don't worry. Test if your surface is ready by sprinkling water onto your deck:
- If the water absorbs into the timber - you're good to go!
- If the water beads, you will need to let your deck further weather, or if you don't want to wait, you can either sand or strip your deck back to bare timber.
Painted or varnished surfaces:
Before coating, you must bring your timber back to bare timber by stripping or sanding your deck.
Make sure to remove all sanding dust before coating.
How to apply Traditional Timber Oil:

Ensure that you have followed our preparation guide.
Make sure your timber is completely dry before coating.
Stir Traditional Timber Oil thoroughly before starting and during application. Avoid introducing any bubbles!
If you are coating a large space and need more than one quantity of Traditional Timber Oil, mix both cans together in a large container.
Work 3-4 boards at a time, along the grain, applying one coat of Traditional Timber Oil using a brush, roller, spray, or Feast Watson Floor Applicator. If using a roller or spray, make sure to back brush the coating. This will ensure even penetration. Remember to make sure your edges and end grain are fully coated too!
Let the oil penetrate your timber for 30-60 minutes. Wipe off any excess product with a dry applicator or cloth before your timber becomes tacky. This is an important step to gaining that beautiful finish!
Let your timber dry for another 60 minutes.
Apply a second coat. After 30-60 minutes, wipe off any excess product.
If you want a longer-lasting finish, apply a third coat, following the previous steps.
You can start walking on your beautiful new deck after 18 hours of drying time.
How to maintain your timber after using Traditional Timber Oil:
All done! Now, how do you make sure your timber maintains this stunning look?
Regularly check on the coated timber to identify any colour loss, dryness or weathering.
If deterioration has occurred, recoat the timber to return it to its original beauty.
If you recoat, don’t forget to clean your deck first using Feast Watson Woodprep.
Do not pour leftover product down the drain.
Brush leftover product onto newspaper, and allowed to completely dry, before disposing of via general waste collection.
Empty containers should be left open in a well-ventilated area to dry out. When dry, recycle the container through steel can recycle programs such as Paintback.
