Relove a sideboard with The Design Files

Jess and Izzie are seasoned DIY pros that turn outdated furniture fabulous with a white-washed look. From laundry benches to smoothie stations, the duo know a thing or two about upcycling. In this project, the team takes on an old wooden cabinet originally found on Gumtree to create a modern, Scandi-style buffet.

Prepping the cabinet

The vintage cabinet Lucy chose was looking a little tired, but with a bit of elbow grease and an electric sander, she was able to smooth away minor scuffs and imperfections — ready for a revamp.

Oiling the exterior surfaces

Lucy chose Feast Watson Scandinavian Oil for the cabinet’s exterior. She applied two coats of this with a clean rag, waiting 24 hours between each coat for the best results.

Finishing touches

Lucy used Black Japan Timber Stain for the internal shelves, and added a mirror to the back before topping her cabinet with a piece of luxurious green marble to finish her luxe home bar.
